Acknowledgments & Thanks

Tacoma Rifle and Revolver Club

: As you know, over the years, the Tacoma Club has provided us with a place to shoot and hold matches. Their vital support is the primary reason bench rest shooting in the Puget Sound area and the Northwest Region remains very active. I know all of you are grateful for the Club’s hospitality and willingness to continue their support. If you are already a member of the Tacoma Club, be sure to keep your membership current, and, if you are not a member, please consider joining. If you are interested, contact Mike Edwards or Bob Zimmerman.

Please remember to abide by the following non-member rules:

1. Practice for a two-day match is limited to the Thursday and Friday before that match.

2. Practice for a three-day match is limited to the Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday before that match.

3. Practice is limited to the use of benches 1 through 9 only. No practicing will be permitted on any other benches.

Also, four of the RV hook-ups are now active. There will be a daily charge for their use.

Finally, it is our hope to field a work party in the Spring to help with repairing benches, clean-up, and other work to assist the Club in maintaining the range.

. They also provided the funding for the dinner following the Tacoma Labor Day Three-Gun Championships.

Russ Haydon, Haydon’s Shooter Supply

: Russ and Marsha provided funding, preparation work and help with set up.

Jeff’s House of Benchrest and DoSo Enterprises, Inc

.: Jeff and Robin Wardlow, together with Dan and Susan Opel, put together everything for serving the dinner, plus helped with serving and clean-up. Also, several people brought pot luck dishes, desserts, and drinks, rounding out the rest of the spread. Be sure to thank all of these supporters by letting them know your appreciation. Also, buy their products and support the local suppliers.

NW Web site and NW Blog

If you go up on the NBRSA web site, which is nbrsa.org, you can find the Northwest site, which we can use for announcements, blogging, and communications of all kinds. I am hoping that we will be able to post the match results for our scheduled matches this year on the site. I also plan on posting our current 2009 match schedules on this site as soon as practical.

Match Schedule

I am enclosing a complete schedule of matches, which includes some of the larger nationwide matches. You can put this on your refrigerator as a reminder.

New - NW Shooter of the Year

Beginning this year (2009), you can start accumulating points to compete as the "NW Benchrest Shooter of the Year." The matches which qualify for NW Benchrest Shooter of the Year are as follows:

1. State Championships; 2. Provincial Championships; and 3. Regional Championships. Every first place winner in any of these match categories shall collect three (3) points. Every second place winner shall collect two (2) points, and every third place winner shall collect one (1) point. The trophy for Shooter of the Year will be presented on the third day of the NW Regionals, which is September 7, 2009.

2009 Annual NW Regional Meeting

The Annual Regional Meeting will be held on Saturday, September 6, after the 200-yard stage of firing for that day. This would be the NW Regionals at the Tacoma Rifle and Revolver Club. Don’t forget that the Annual Dinner will be at the same time. If you wish to bring a pot luck dish, please let me know in advance, Please also try to bring agenda items to the meeting, if you have any.

New NBRSA Hall of Masters:

This is a new induction program, which has been approved by the NBRSA Board. Lou Muridica is the spark plug, and would be able to answer your questions about the Program. You need a total of ten (10) points to become an inductee. Each region can nominate two honorees, each for the first two years, which we should try to select the our Regional Meeting. The rules for collecting points are to be posted on the NBRSA web site soon. I can tell you that three points can be collected by winning a regional championship. This rule is retroactive, so, if you have ever won a regional match, then, you would get one point.

New Member Recruiting Awards

Starting at the National Championships, in Phoenix, 2008, and ending at the St. Louis National Championships, the current incentives are as follows:

a. Sponsorship of one new member, earns a chambering job or two Dewey cleaning rods – your choice.

b. Sponsorship of two new members earns one barrel certificate for either a Shilen, Bartlein, or Krieger LV taper barrel.

c. If you sponsor four new members, that would earn you two barrels.

d. Sponsorship of five members, earns a 35 mm Leupold Scope

e. Sponsorship of six new members, earns a Bat action.

Rules are as follows:

1. "New member" means a person who has not previously been a member for at least two years prior to his or her sponsorship.

2. Sponsor’s name must be placed on membership application card, and the card must be received by the NBRSA Business Manager before the beginning of the 2009 Varmint National Championships.

Finally, I am still trying to collect names, addresses, e-mail addresses, and phone numbers of our NW members and/or persons you think should receive a copy of this letter.

Also, if you have any suggestions or ideas on how to attract new members, please let me know.

Good Shooting!
